Job Description: Special Needs Teacher
Location: Gladwyne, PA
Salary: $60 – $70k DOE
Schedule: Monday – Friday 9am – 12:30; Complete reports on own time
Position Overview: Famiy of 5 is seeking a compassionate and dedicated certified Special Needs Teacher to work with their non-verbal 5-year-old child with complex needs, including epilepsy and characteristics similar to cerebral palsy. The ideal candidate will be a certified teacher with experience in a preschool setting, skilled in working with children who have complex needs, and able to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team. The learning will take place from 9am – 12:30pm in a room in a nearby location to the family's home. Must complete required documentation and reports which can be done outside the learning environment on your own time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized instruction tailored to the child’s unique needs, using expressive and animated teaching methods.
- Incorporate music and other creative strategies to engage the child and support their learning and development.
- Work closely with a team of therapists, aides, and paraprofessionals to ensure a coordinated approach to the child’s care and education.
- Implement and monitor the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain a calm, patient, and fun environment that encourages the child’s participation and progress.
- Monitor the child’s medical needs, particularly related to epilepsy, and work with healthcare professionals as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Certified Teacher with experience in early childhood education.
- Proven experience working with children with complex needs, preferably including those with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to effectively interact with the child and collaborate with the team.
- Ability to be animated, expressive, and musical in teaching approaches.
- Patience, understanding, and a positive attitude towards working with children with special needs.
